I grew up watching my mom coupon-clip and penny-pinch to put my dad through medical school. Then I watched everything change almost overnight when he graduated — his doctor's salary went to work for him, and I saw, for the first time, what it actually looked like when money built something.

I was privileged to go to college debt-free. And then I came out as a trans man, and my parents compared gender-affirming care to a drug addiction and cut me off completely — financially, intentionally — to limit my options.

They used money as a weapon.

The only way I could fight back was to learn how it actually works.

I paid for private top surgery. I paid for my dream wedding. Both debt-free. Today I have a juicy emergency fund, tens of thousands invested in the stock market growing while I sleep, and I'm saving for a down payment on a home in a queer-friendly city.

I didn't do any of that because I had it easy. I did it because I got angry, got educated, and refused to let anyone else's money have power over my life ever again.

I became a financial coach because I don't want to be the exception.
